From the East:
My Brothers, I hope each and everyone one of you enjoyed your Thanksgiving Day Holiday. This holiday is truly one of my favorites as it is non-sectarian so all can participate and we each give thanks to our Creator in our own way for the things that happened in our life during the previous year. With the stress of the holiday being on family and friends some of which we only get to see at this time of the year (unfortunately) it truly gets no better than this. For those of you who had to travel great distances for this holiday I hope you arrived at your destination safely and relatively stress free.
Our previous meeting was really a treat as we were on the receiving end of a splendid lecture given by the V.'.W.'. Michael Siegel on Masonic Etiquette. This is a lecture I feel should be given periodically as we are all human and at times fall into bad habits and a refresher course is always welcome as well as the ability to ask questions about certain topics.
Our next meeting on December 1, we will be forming a delegation and going to Humanitas Lodge #1123 for the official visit of the R.'.W.'. John Walker Robinson District Deputy Grand Master of the Eighth Manhattan Masonic District where he will be delivering the Grand Masters Message. My Brothers it is important to support the District Deputy on all his official visits so I would hope we have a good showing.
The following meeting will be our Festive Board which is always a good time by all. I can think of no better way to celebrate the Holiday Season than joining my brothers for dinner and the festivities of the evening. If you know a brother who has not been to a lodge meeting in sometime (and unfortunately we all do) please encourage them to come this evening and reconnect with his Brothers and he will see that his presence has most certainly been missed. This also a good event to bring a friend who may be interested in joining the craft so he can meet the brothers in a more relaxed state.
For those of you who were in attendance at our last meeting you are aware of the report given by R.'.W.'. Joe Ruiz on the state of donations coming into the Harry S. Truman Foundation on being on the slow side. The Foundation is the main charitable branch of the lodge and many brothers were unhappy and upset last year that we could not give as much to certain charities as we have in the past and some not at all. This is your chance to make a difference. I know times are tough and not everyone can make large donations, but even small donations can make a difference. The year is quickly coming to a close and if you wish to make a contribution please do so.
Fraternally, W.'.Steven Siegel Master Harry S. Truman No. 1066
| From the Secretary's Desk:
After a short business meeting on December 1st, at which time we will discuss the Foundation and how it stands at this time, the Lodge will be joining Humanitas Lodge in welcoming the R.'.W.'.John Walker Robinson and hearing the Grand Master's message.
The cut-off date for contributions to the Foundation to be considered for distribution in April is December 31, 2011. If you have not made your yearly contribution as of yet, Please, Please do so now. There are many charities that the Foundation contributes to, but if we don't have the monies to distribute, we have to cut some out.
These are charities that YOU recommended, so please help us make this years contributions count.
We are also at the end of the fiscal year for the Lodge, which means that any brother now is in arrears with their dues for two years or more, they will be un-affiliated. This means you cannot be a member of any Masonic organization that is recognized by Grand Lodge..
THE LODGE IS HOLDING A SPECIAL MEETING ON DEC. 15, AT WHICH TIME WE WILL BE VOTING ON UN-AFFILIATION OF BROTHERS AND ALSO WE WILL BE HOLDING OUR ANNUAL FESTIVE BOARD. The cost of this affair is $20.00 per person and is open to all Masons and male non-masons and is a great time to bring prospective members to meet and break bread with the Lodge.
HOWEVER, I MUST HAVE A COUNT ON THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE THAT WILL BE THERE. THE LODGE WAS EMBARRASSED WHEN WE HONORED OUR 2 HONOREES LAST MONTH BECAUSE 1/3rd MORE PEOPLE SHOWED UP WHO DID NOT MAKE RESERVATIONS AND THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH FOOD.
DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN AGAIN. WE CANNOT ASSUME YOU ARE COMING. YOU MUST CALL ME TO MAKE A RESERVATION (IT IS TOO LATE TO CALL THE NIGHT BEFORE).
BE COURTEOUS, CALL. Contact our Sr. Deacon, Stephen Lovasz about the District Children's Party on Dec. 3, 2011 at Dave & Busters in Westbury, NY
Wishing all our Brothers and their families a Happy and Healthy Holiday Season. May the New Year bring Health & Joy.
Fraternally. R.'.W.'. Martin Dashevsky. Secretary
