From the East:
My Brothers,
For those of you who missed our annual picnic you missed an absolutely splendid time. Our picnic chairmen and his committee as well as Joe's Cajun kitchen did a great ob to insure that we would all enjoy ourselves. Those of you who have never been to our picnic or haven't been there for some time should try to make every attempt to attend next year as it really is a wonderful event. There really is no better feeling then being in the company of your brothers.
So many things have happened since the picnic we have experienced an earthquake and a hurricane. I hope you and your family all came through this well. In dealing with the hurricane it was humbling to see everyone pitching in to help one another masons and non masons alike. I myself in dealing with storm in my usual vocation worked from Saturday Aug. 26 to the following Friday straight through. In doing so I met people from all over the country that came to Long Island to help in the aftermath. Several of them were brothers from Michigan and Indiana unfortunately I was only able to speak to them briefly, but it really did make me feel good and maybe a little proud that when the word went out for help they came.
Before our next meeting we will also be observing the anniversary of a day I think none of us will ever forget. The day the United States was attacked by extremists on September 11, 2001. Many of us lost friends and family in these attacks and they will never be forgotten. If we could only teach the profane world the basic human rights and Masonic principals of religious tolerance and that all men are created equal these types of things would not happen. Until that time we can only ask the Great Architect of the Universe for guidance.
At our next meeting we will be doing something our Ledge rarely does and does not do lightly. We will be conferring honorary membership for two men who have been a great help to our lodge in the past and, currently still do. They are the Deputy Grand Master R.'.W.'.James Sullivan, and the Grand Secretary R.'.W.'.Gilbert Savitzky. Please come to be with your brothers and to honor these brothers as a full lodge room would really show them how special this event is to us.

| From the Secretary's Desk:
Brethren,
It is time for our annual fund drive for the Harry S. Truman Foundation. The foundation is the charitable branch of the lodge and is separate from the lodge. However, if you are a member of Harry S Truman Lodge you are automatically a member of the Foundation.
My Brothers I know times are tough, but I would like to remind you that when you took your obligations you promised to help those in need. This is your chance to help fulfill those obligations. Just because you don't have enough to give the suggested amounts it doesn't mean you can't donate all denominations will be accepted gladly. I would also like to remind you that you don't always have to wait to be asked to donate to the foundation as donations are accepted year round.
I think We all would like to avoid what happened at last years foundation meeting when many of us were unhappy that we could not give as much as we have in the past, and certain charities not at all. I know we are taught "without material injury to myself and family"and I am not suggesting that, however if we all contribute what we can we will have more than enough.
Please donate as soon as possible as I know how easy it is to get caught up in other things and put things on the back burner, but that is how things get forgotten.
Mail all your donations, addressed to:
