From the East:
Brethren,
Whoever said Budget Meetings are all boring was completely wrong!
R:. W:. Marty Dashevsky conducted the budget meeting, after which he gave a presentation about "The Morgan Affair". Brother Patrick Bahnken then gave a presentation about Masonic Passports, and travelling as a Mason. My thanks to both Brothers for their great presentations! My thanks also to the Brothers of our Lodge, and visiting Brothers from Isreal and Virginia, both of whom expressed interest in affilliating with our Lodge, and for their questions and additional information. It was a fun and educational evening for all.
Our next meeting will be the Degree of Entered Apprentice. It will also be our last meeting before the summer break. We will be obligating eight (8) prospective members! Therefore I will ask that all Brothers of Harry S Truman Lodge do your best to be in attendance. We will need many conductors, and our new Brethren will benefit greatly from a full Lodge room on the night of their initiation.
Before the meeting, we will be upstairs at Limerick for a Dutch-treat dinner at 6:00. All are invited to attend. Candidates will be prepared at 7pm, and the Lodge will open promptly at 7:30.
Have a wonderful summer Brothers! See you all at our next meeting on June 17th and at the picnic on August 14th.
Fraternally, W:. Frank L. Parker Master |
From the Secretary's Desk:
Today I officiated at a funeral for a member of 70 years who was raised in Prudence Lodge No. 1066 on May 8, 1940. I am sorry to say I did not know the Brother personally, but speaking to the family, he was somebody we could all emulate. At the age of 91 years Elliot Wolheim still paid his dues regularly and on time. His family knew of his wish to have a Masonic Service performed and they even were able to supply his "lambskin apron" with which he was presented over 70 years ago. Do you know where yours is, or better yet does your family know where it is and what to do with it? It's true he comes from a Masonic family, his father having been a member of Prudence Lodge before him, and having no sons to pass on the tradition, he made sure his daughter knew what to do. Elliot was a decorated war veteran, having earned the Bronze Medal, and the Purple Heart serving during WW II, an amateur ham radio operator (call # wa2mum), who passed on his passion for this hobby by mentoring young people and was still broadcasting almost to the end, not by "voice", but by Morse code (-- --- .-. ... . -.-. --- -.. . ) the way he was taught. Though he did not frequent our Lodge room for many years, he still practiced the principles of Freemasonry by being a good neighbor, friend, and especially a loving and caring father and husband for over 61 years. He will be missed by many, especially his family.
At this meeting we will be voting on the Budget for the next year and granting Honorary Membership to Brothers of the Craft that have assisted Our Lodge in many ways.
Following that there will be a discussion on how to obtain a Masonic passport, and also a Historical Lecture on the event that almost caused the collapse of Freemasonry in NY.
