From the East:My Brothers,
Our next communication will be that of the Fellow Craft Degree. Your attendance is requested. It would seem that we are one of the lucky Lodges in the district, with all the degree work that we of Harry S Truman lodge have performed. If all goes well, we will have conferred, two third, one first and second degrees. Not bad, but is the word lucky proper. Often what is seen as lucky, is actually the behind the scenes efforts of many of our brethren.
During our last communication, we were able to interview a candidate, and form a committee to interview two additional.
We have all heard and seen the phrase, 2B1ASK1. For many years the phrase was taken to literal. Nobody asked, meetings became stale, our membership aged. Same O, Same O. While I am NOT suggesting nor promoting bulk recruiting, each of us knows men who would make our fraternity better. So, instead of seeing 2B1ASK1 as being responsive, lets look at it as being proactive, for a man 2B1, ASK him.
Sunday, six of our Brothers from HST traveled to Amityville Lodge No. 977 to honor their Junior Past Master W.'.Ed Kleiner. W.'.Kleiner was raised in Harry S Truman, and due to travel and work schedule associated with Amityville. His contribution to Amityville was as intense to the lodge infrastructure as it was to the morality of the membership.
In recognition of their Past Masters, one Brother was issued a 65 year pin, and it was mentioned that he served as Master in 1947, as well as many times after. I am truly sorry that I have not as of this writing learned the brothers name.
At our last Communication we transferred of a collage of Harry S Truman pictures and letters, to the Livingston Library. The collage was displayed in the district office and beginning to deteriorate. The Library through R.'.W.'.Thomas M. Savini and Trustee R.'.W.'.Barry Mallah and R.'.W.'.William J. Thomas agreed to accept, restore, display and image this item in a prominent location. We will place it on the Lodge web site when the image documents are received.Photo L to R: R.'.W.'.Martin Dashevsky R.'.W.'.Thomas M Savini, W.'.Anthony Pecorella Since we will not have a Ladies Night this year, our event will be that of the Testimonial Dinner Dance to honor R.'.W.'.H. Stephen Lieb and R.'.W.'.Larry Barnard. If you and your lady are planning to attend, please do not hesitate, hesitation causes confusion in the planning and in the long run, detracts from what could be a greater event. A yea is just as valuable as a na to the planners. Mark your calendar, and please respond by April! The dinner will be held at Riccardo's by the Bridge, 21-20 24th Ave, Astoria on May 3, 2008. Tickets are available at each meeting, or by remitting a check to my address on the front cover.
Fraternally,
W.'.Tony Pecorella
