FROM THE EAST

My Brothers,

The picnic was a huge success and I have to thank all the Brothers that made it so.

Inasmuch as these Brothers have done the work, year after year, and do not seek recognition, their efforts must be mentioned.  Bro. Frank Malita and W\Arthur Kessler who are members of the Kopling, made all the local arrangements.

The Friday prior to the meeting they are on site setting up the tents, arranging the food, purchasing the libations and all the little aspects that have made this event so successful.  This is not to mention the fact that W\Mike Estrada traveled from N Carolina to help with the set up as well as Bro. Steve Pertrillo, Bro. Matt Donovan , and Bro. Anthony Lehman along with their families, arrived Friday for the setup.  All those balloons and direction signs were placed there by the efforts of these brothers.  I thought that this needs to be mentioned.  Many of these brothers stayed in the area for the weekend.  Our picnic is a celebration of Masonry and our families and friends, Lodge Meetings are our method of focusing Masonic direction, function and the business of the Lodge.  This weekend for those that stayed was truly the fraternity at work and play!

Bro. Steve Lavas and Bro. Robert Callahan spent many hours planning the children's gifts and the games for the day.  W\John Kelly was also in attendance to entertain the kids and adults with his clowning and balloons.  Bro Ed Seigle and Bro Steve Seigle oversaw the horse shoe tournament.  Anyone remember the name of the Brother that knocked me out of contention for the winners circle.

Then there was the turkey, blackened catfish, poppers, non of which would not have happened without the many hours that R\W\ Joe Mandel, Prichard who is Joe's brother-in-law and the New Orleans connection, Bro. Bill Gambrel and their support in obtaining the cooking equipment, trips to the airport, cleanup and re-storing the equipment.  Bro. Frank Parker, Bro Anthony Lehman, Bro. Joe Salano and Bro. Steve Pertrillo served up the Ices to what looked like a hungry mob, biggest line of the day.

At the end of the day W\Joe Ruiz and Marge Bandfino attended to the child ID program. Often we perform this service for strangers, it was good that we were able to do the same for our families. Special thanks to Bro. Gene Dwyer for transporting the equipment to the site. Lets us not forget R\W\Martin Dashevsky for protecting the gates.

These Brothers deserve your recognition, as this was not a one time event for them, but an ongoing, year after year effort, making any Master look good!

Our first meeting in September was a huge success welcoming Deputy Grand Master Edward Gilbert into Harry S Truman No. 1066 as a honorary member. This meeting was well attended by our members, many from the Grand Line as well as two past Grand Masters, and a delegation from Humanities Lodge.

Special thanks to R\W\Mike Hyman for his role as presiding officer, creating the meeting notice and making the event flow so well. R\W\Martin Dashevsky deserves a thank you for his behind the scene efforts for this and other events that often go un-noticed.

The pre meeting dinner was excellent as well as the deserts.  Thanks to the dinner committee.

If smiles and laughter are the results of a successful event,
we were very successful this evening.
